Can You Take Glue On a Plane? TSA 2026

There are different forms of glue: liquid, gel, or solid stick, flammable, and non-flammable, but can you bring glue on a plane ?

Here is the short answer:

You can take glue on a plane in both carry-on and checked baggage if it is not flammable. However, non-flammable glue bottles need to be 3.4 oz / 100ml or less when transported in carry-on bags.

Whether you are traveling with super glue, wood glue, epoxy glue, impact glue, PVA glue, this post covers everything you need to know about taking glue on planes in both carry-on and checked baggage.

Let’s dive right in.

TL;DR

  • You can bring glue on a plane only if it is non-flammable.
  • Non-flammable liquid or gel glue must be 3.4 oz / 100 ml or less when packed in carry-on.
  • Non-flammable glue (including larger containers) is allowed with no size limits in checked baggage.
  • Flammable glue (including most super glues): Not allowed in carry-on or checked bags.
  • Glue sticks are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags.
  • Always check the product label or MSDS to confirm whether the glue is flammable.

Can You Take Glue Through The Security Checkpoint?

To carry glue in carry-on, there two things to keep in mind: the size and if it is flammable for not.

Most types of glue are flammable, especially super glue.

Even though the TSA does not list specific rules about super glue on its website.

They stated that only non-flammable glue is permitted through the TSA security checkpoint.

Some super glues and other household glues are not flammable and would be allowed in baggage.

Here is how to know if the glue you wanted to take is flammable or not.

Some super glues and other household glues are not flammable and would be allowed in baggage. To see if they are flammable, check the product label or the manufacturer’s material safety data sheet (MSDS). When checking the MSDS, a “flash point” at or below 140° F (60° C) indicates it is a flammable liquid and may not be carried in airline baggage.

I checked X ( Formerly Twitter) for more clarification.

Christy wanted to bring her 0.14 oz of super glue in carry-on baggage.

Screenshot from X for a user asking AskTSA whether 0.14 oz of super glue is allowed in a carry-on bag, with an official AskTSA reply stating that non-flammable glue must follow the liquids rule and be 3.4 oz or less.

The TSA customer service replied that non-flammable super glue is permitted in carry-on baggage, but it needs to follow the TSA 3-1-1 liquid rule.

If you are not familiar with the TSA 3-1-1 liquid rule, it means you can only take anything that you can spray, smear, or squeeze in containers of 3.4 oz / 100 ml or less in carry-on baggage, and they need to be placed inside a quart size bag

Important: Even if an item is allowed, the security agent at the airport has the final say on whether will be permitted on board the airplane.

Can You Take Glue In Checked Baggage?

You can also take any type of glue including industrial glue in hold luggage if it is not flammable.

In this case, you don’t need to worry about the liquid restrictions, even when traveling with large containers.

Matthew wanted to bring acrylic water-based paints, clippers, a hobby knife, and a small tube of Mod Podge glue in checked baggage.

Screenshot of an X post asking TSA about traveling with model paints, glue, clippers, and a hobby knife, with a photo of small paint pots and tools, and an AskTSA reply stating super glue is not allowed on aircraft.

They replied that super glue is highly flammable and isn’t allowed on flights, but non-flammable oil paints and acrylics are allowed in checked bags.

Swap wanted to bring unopened tube of super glue in checked baggage.

Screenshot of an X exchange where a user asks AskTSA if an unopened tube of super glue is allowed in checked baggage, and AskTSA replies that super glue is highly flammable and not allowed in either carry-on or checked bags.

The TSA replied that super glue is highly flammable so it won’t be allowed on the aircraft.

But small tube of crazy glue are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags.

Screenshot of an X exchange where a traveler asks AskTSA about carrying small tubes of Crazy Glue or super glue in hand luggage, and AskTSA replies that only nonflammable glue under 3.4 ounces is allowed in carry-on bags in a quart-size liquids bag.

The same good with glue sticks, they are good to go in both carry-on and checked baggage.

How To Pack Glue For a Flight ?

When traveling you don’t want your glue to spell and mess all your items.

So ensure to safeguard your glue to prevent any leaks by packing it carefully.

But f”irst, if you pack refilled glue bottle don’t forget to label the containers, so the security agent know easily what is inside the bottles.

You can use a sealable plastic bag or a zip lock bag, and wrap it  in a paper tower or cloth inside the bag for extra protection.

Place the zip top bag in the middle of the suitcase, surrounded by soft items.

Sometimes it is best to buy glue at your destination than packing it indoor suitcase.

Final Thoughts

The TSA and most airlines restrict flammable super glue in both carry-on and checked bags.

If you are traveling with non-flammable craft glue, you only need to worry about the size of the containers, which must comply with the TSA liquid guidelines I mentioned above.

Make sure to place your non-flammable adhesive in your checked bag if it is more than 3.4 oz / 100 ml.

I hope this helps.

Happy travels.
