Can You Bring A HydroFlask On a Plane? 2026

Hydro flasks or insulated water bottles are versatile for any drink, from water to coffee to soup, and are built to last, making them a suitable choice for travel, but can you bring a Hydro flask on a plane ?

Generally, You are allowed to bring your favorite Hydro Flask on a plane in both carry-on and checked baggage on domestic and international flights. However, for carry-on baggage, the Hydro Flask needs to be completely empty of any liquids when presented for screening.

If you prefer to travel with a Hydro Flask instead of a plastic water bottle, then this post covers everything you need to know about taking Hydro Flasks in both domestic and international flights.

Let’s dive right in.

TL;DR

  • You can bring a Hydro Flask on a plane in both carry-on and checked baggage.
  • In carry-on bags, the Hydro Flask must be completely empty when going through security.
  • Filled Hydro Flasks are not allowed through TSA due to the 3.4 oz / 100 ml liquid rule.
  • You can refill your Hydro Flask after passing the security checkpoint.
  • Hydro Flasks are allowed in checked baggage whether empty or full, with no liquid limits.
  • To avoid leaks from pressure changes, it’s best to empty it before packing it in checked luggage.

Are Hydro Flasks Allowed Through TSA?

The TSA did mention empty coffee thermoses but they not mention Hydro Flasks specifically on its website, but they clearly have no issues with allowing an empty Hydro Flask through the airport security checkpoint.

If you want to bring a Hydro Flask filled with a drink through the security checkpoint, the security agent will not accept it.

They will ask you to empty it.

This is because, only 3.4 oz / 100 ml containers (of liquids) are allowed in carry-on bags, and they must be placed inside a quart-size bag.

In fact, it’s not only the TSA that has liquid restrictions, but also most international airlines and airports.

So, make sure to empty your Hydro Flask, or stainless steel  bottle from any drinks at home or before heading to the airport, and then refill it up after you pass the security checkpoint with your favorite drink.

I checked X (Formerly Twitter) to find more answers from the TSA.

Shivon wanted to know if an empty 32 oz Hydro Flask is allowed in either carry-on or checked baggage.

The TSA replied that empty water bottles are allowed in carry-on bags.

They do not have any issues with Hydro Flasks because they are made from metal.

The same answer are given to Kay”empty metal water bottle is allowed in carry-on bags, this includes Hydro Flasks “

Can You Take a Hydro Flask In Checked Baggage?

You can take a Hydro Flask in checked baggage without any restrictions in both domestic and international flights.

You can pack them in your checked suitcase whether they are empty or full, as the liquids rules do not apply to checked luggage.

But, I strongly recommended to empty your Hydro Flask before packing it.

The changes in the pressure and rough handling during transit can cause the Hydro Flask to leak, which may mess your clothes or other items in your suitcase.

To be safe, make sure the lid is tightly secured and consider placing the bottle in a sealed plastic bag or wrapping it in a cloth.

Final Thoughts

You can bring a Hydro Flask through the security checkpoint as long as it is empty.

After you pass the security checkpoint, you are free to fill it up with your favorite drink.

You don’t have to worry about liquids if you want to place your Hydro Flask inside your checked bag.

Most airlines and the TSA do not have strict rules about checked baggage.

Even so, I wouldn’t recommend placing too much liquid inside checked luggage.

I hope this helps.

Happy travels.
