Smart Baggage

Smart bags have integrated lithium batteries that allow charging external devices, GPS tracking, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, self-weighing, and digital locking.

You can carry a smart bag as both checked and hand baggage, provided you meet the requirements.

Effective 15 January 2018, the following restrictions apply for smart bags on all FlyDubai flights:

Hand baggage:

  • At check-in, you must advise the staff that you are traveling with a smart bag.
  • Lithium battery must be removable.
  • Lithium battery must not exceed a power rating of more than 100Wh (Li-ion) or 2g (Li-metal).
  • Lithium battery must not be used to charge any device onboard, and all transmitting functions (GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) must be switched off. The smart bag must be powered off throughout the flight.
  • The smart bag must be within hand baggage allowance.

Checked baggage:

  • At check-in, you must advise the staff that you are traveling with a smart bag.
  • Lithium batteries must be removed and carried in your hand baggage.
  • Lithium batteries must not exceed a power rating of more than 100Wh (for Li-ion) or 2g (for Li-metal).
  • Removed lithium batteries carried in your hand baggage must be protected from activation, short-circuit, and any damage.

Final Thoughts

Before heading to the airport, make sure that you follow FlyDubai baggage rules and skip any hassle at the airport.

If you’re in Economy, you are allowed to have one cabin bag can quickly fill up once you add a laptop bag, a small handbag, or a duty-free shopping bag.

If you’re in Business class, you have more allowance, but going over the 40 kg limit for checked baggage can get expensive, especially on flights to Europe or Southeast Asia.

If you’re bringing a smart bag, make sure you remove the lithium battery and switch off all transmitting functions otherwise, you risk having your bag rejected at check-in.

Also, when traveling from Dubai, even a few extra kilos can cost you $20–$25 per kg depending on the zone, so plan ahead to avoid unexpected fees.

By following these rules and being mindful of your luggage, you’ll avoid delays, extra charges, and stress letting you focus on enjoying your trip.

With FlyDubai, packing smart isn’t just convenient, it’s the key to a smooth journey.

I hope this helps

Happy travels
