Can You Bring Eyeliner On a Plane? TSA Rules

Eyeliners are essential makeup items that you need to keep in your cosmetic bag, and if you are all set to pack your bags for an upcoming air trip, one question that must be concerning you: how can you bring eyeliner on a plane?

Evidently, the TSA policies are there for your safety and the safety of other passengers.

There could be some bad guys that are willing to sneak dangerous items on board the airplane.

So, what about eyeliners? Go ahead and find out the rules!

TSA rules for eyeliners

The TSA has different rules for different types of eyeliners, depending on whether they are liquid, gel, or solid.

According to the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) official website you can bring liquid eyeliner in your carry-on or personal item, but it must follow the 3-1-1 liquid rule.

Eyeliners that are usually in small pots or tubes, are creamy or semi-solid.

Each liquid eyeliner must be in a container that is 3.4 ounces / 100 ml or less, and all your liquids must fit in a single quart-sized bag.

This means that liquid eyeliner, makeup remover, mascara, liquid foundation, or under eye concealer, falls into the same category as normal liquids.

You can only bring one quart sized bag, and you must place it in a bin for screening at the security checkpoint.

Don’t forget to keep your items accessible to make them easy to take out and put back in your hand luggage. This way, you can speed up the screening process and avoid any delays or hassles.

On the other hand solid eyeliners are usually in pencil or crayon form, and they have a hard or dry texture, so they don’t count as a liquid and you don’t have to worry about the 3.4 ounce size limit.

You can bring as many of them as you want, and you do not need to put them in a quart sized bag or a bin for screening either.

Carry-on vs checked baggage

Yes, you can take eyeliners on a plane in your hand luggage without any limits, as long as you follow the TSA rules for liquids, gels, and solids.

To prevent your eyeliners from leaking or breaking during your flight, you should pack them carefully in your hand luggage.

Ensure that liquid or gel eyeliners caps are tight and the containers are not cracked or damaged.

For solid eyeliners, make sure that you wrap your eyeliners in plastic wrap or tissue paper for extra protection.

You can also take eyeliner on a plane in your checked bag, However, there are some cons for packing your eyeliners in your checked luggage.

If you check your luggage, you have no control over what will happen to your eyeliner or other makeup items, your eyeliners might get lost, stolen, or damaged.

Your eyeliners might be affected by temperature or pressure changes.

You might not have access to your eyeliners when you need them.

Therefore, I recommend that you bring your eyeliners in your hand luggage, rather than your checked luggage, whenever possible. This way, you can ensure that your eyeliners are safe, intact, and available when you need them.

Can you bring other Brow products on a plane?

You can bring your Brow kit in carry-on and checked baggage.

The only thing that you need to remember is that liquid or spray products (like setting spray), need to follow the TSA 311 liquid rule, when placed in an indoor carry-on bag.

Items like tweezers, small scissors, mirrors are also good to go in both carry-on and checked baggage.

For some context, any tool with larger blades must be transported in a checked bag.

Note that TSA always stated that the final say whether an item will be allowed or not depends on the TSA officer you are dealing with at the airport.

Can you bring an eyeliner pencil sharpener in your carry-on?

Eyeliner pencil sharpeners can be brought on the plane in your carry-on bag, and you are free to bring as many as you like without any restrictions.

You don’t need to worry about the razor or blades, as they are small.

Can you bring deodorant and perfume on a plane?

If you are also planning to bring your favorite fragrances on your next flight, and you have questions about different types of deodorant, it might seem a bit complicated.

Take a sigh of relief, I have put together a detailed post that walks you through the different types of deodorant that you can bring through TSA and in hand luggage.

To keep yourself smelling good when you travel, I also covered the special rules for bringing perfume and lotions on planes, you can read the full post here.

Final Thoughts

Eyeliners and eyebrow pencils are must have items in your makeup bag, and just like applying your eyeliner is effortless, bringing solid eyeliners through airport security will be like a breeze.

Also as long as you follow the TSA rules for liquid eyeliners, size and quantity limitations you can bring as many as you want inside your quart sized bag.

It is better to avoid packing your eyeliners or other makeup in your checked bag, unless you have no other choice.

I hope this helps.

Happy travels.
