What Does 100 ml Look Like? 100 ml to oz / 3.4 oz to ml

If you are planning to bring any type of liquids or toiletries on a plane, you may have heard that you can only bring containers of 3.4 oz / 100 ml in carry-on, but wha does 100 ml actually look like? And does 100 ml equal 4 ounces?

I this post I will take a look at how big is 100 ml  bottles compared to other sizes, some real examples of how many ounces 100 ml is and what 100 ml really looks like, so your toiletries don’t get tossed away at the security checkpoint.

I also built this simple ounces-to-milliliters / milliliters to ounces so you can convert the size of your bottle easily.

TL;DR

  • 100 ml looks like a small travel-size bottle, about the size of a typical perfume or mini shampoo container.
  • A 100 ml bottle will fit easily in your palm and is much smaller than regular shampoo or body wash bottles.
  • 100 ml = 3.4 fluid ounces (oz), and 3.4 oz = 100 milliliters, so they’re the same thing.
  • This is the maximum liquid size allowed per container in carry-on luggage, and anything larger (like 4 oz) won’t be allowed, even if it’s not full.
  • For longer trips, 100 ml may only last a few days, so pack larger bottles in your checked bag.

What Does 100 ml Look Like?

  • 100 ml = 3.4 to 3.5  US fluid ounces oz and 100 cubic centimeters
  • For water it is around 100 grams
  • In cooking 100 ml is approximately under 7 tablespoons.

But let’s go back to air travel.

While the standard unit of measure of 450 ml and 1000 ml are the most common for most liquids.

A 100-milliliter bottle is the most common size that most Eau de Perfume and Shampoo companies use.

Here is what a 100 ml bottle looks like compared with a 1000 ml shampoo bottle.

Here is how 100 ml look like

The TSA and airlines do not allow those large bottles in carry-on baggage.

If you want to take more shampoo on a flight, for instance, a 1000-milliliter bottle will give you 10 bottles of 100 ml / 3.4 oz. This means you can travel with a full bottle of shampoo if you divide it into small 100 ml containers that fit well inside a toiletry bag.

We have already covered the exact measurements of a toiletry bag and why it is called a quart-sized bag.

What Is 100 Millilitres in Inches?

To calculate 100 ml to cubic inches just divide the volume value by 16.387.

In this case 100 ml = 6.10237 cubic inches

But it is hard to identify and rely on the volume of 100 ml by its dimensions manually.

It is also complicated, as most companies tend to make large bottles but fill them with only 100 ml of liquid (for marketing purposes, and make the product look big).

The best way to know if a bottle has a 100 ml volume is to get an empty bottle, like this 3 fl oz / 89 ml Oursunshine silicone travel bottle for toiletries.

Is 100 Millilitres Enough When You Travel?

It really depends on the duration of your trip and the product you will need.

Sometimes you may need more than 3.4 oz / 100 millilitres of certain products, so you can take several bottle of it.

However, it is often better to take other large containers inside your checked bag as a backup, so you can save space inside your toiletry bag and your carry-on bag in general.

There is also a higher chance that you will find some products that you will like at your destination.

We have gathered some essential items that you may want to travel with to show you what their 100 ml travel size looks like.

How many uses do you get from a 100 ml bottle?

  • Water / Other drinks

A 100 ml bottle (3.4 oz) of water is very small and not enough for a flight, also they require to place it in a quart sized bag.

It is better to bring an empty water bottle and fill it after you pass the security checkpoint.

If you only have 100 ml, you won’t even have a full cup of water.

  • Shampoo

You can find travel-friendly shampoo bottles that come in 3.4 oz / 100 ml, but you need to make sure they cover your needs during your trip.

As I mentioned above you can pack more in your checked bag.

  • Body wash

Body wash usually comes in large bottles, sometimes even 34 oz / 1000 ml. You may want to take several small bottles in your quart-sized bag or place a large bottle in your checked bag.

  • Sunscreen

Sunscreen usually comes in small bottles, which is great, as spray sunscreen is difficult to refill into other containers.

For me I always find a100ml bottle of sunscreen that I use for face and neck only last for one month.

  • Hair gel

The most common size of hair gel is 6.8 oz / 201 ml, which is larger than the allowed size for carry-on baggage.

You will need to transfer it into smaller bottles.

  • Toothpaste

Toothpaste companies are aware that travelers have difficulties traveling with large tubes, so they provide travel-friendly containers.

This makes it easier to find your favorite toothpaste in smaller sizes.

But also you can find brands like Colgate, Sensodyne (Haleon), Oral-B, and Crest almost anywhere in the world.

  • Mascara

The good thing about mascara is that most tubes are less than 3.4 oz / 100 millilitres, so you can fit several in your toiletry bag.

Final Thoughts

Now I hope that you get all your answers about how a100 Ml and 3.4oz Look Like.

The liquid size limit is almost the same on most airports and airlines, for both domestic and international flights, and it is usually listed as 3.4 oz or 100 millilitres.

You can find 3.4 oz / 100 millilitre travel-sized bottles for products like Shampoo, Conditioners, Shower Gels, Hair Oils and Treatments as many brands offer 100ml sizes.

However, it is not a good idea to take only one single bottle, especially for long trips.

A 100 ml bottle is not very big, so you need to consider how many days you are traveling and how often you will use the product.

I hope this helps.

Happy travels

What Does 100 Ml/3.4oz Look Like FAQS

  • Is 100 ml the same as 4 oz?
No. A 100 ml booth is around 3.4 fluid ounces, not 4 oz.
A 4 oz bottle is more than 3.4 oz, what the TSA liquid limit is, even if it’s not full, so it’s will not be accepted in your carry-on.
  • Why does TSA say 3.4 oz instead of 100 ml?
TSA uses 3.4 oz because it’s the exact ounce equivalent of 100 milliliters in the U.S, and since the U.S. uses ounces instead of milliliters, both numbers mean the same thing.
  • Is 100 ml equal to 3 oz or 3.4 oz?
100 ml equals 3.4 oz, not 3 oz.

  • Can you bring multiple 100 ml bottles on a plane?
Yes. You can bring multiple 100 ml (3.4 oz) bottles, as long as they all fit in one clear, quart-sized toiletry bag and each bottle is 100 ml or less, the TSA typically means by a quart size bag, a total of 34 oz / 1 litre.

No. Each liquid container can be 100 ml (3.4 oz) or smaller.
But anything even slightly over the limit is not allowed in carry-on luggage.
  • Are the 100 ml liquid bottles the same for international flights?
Yes. Most airports follow the same 100 ml / 3.4 oz rule, including Europe, the UK, Canada, and Australia.
You can expect the same restrictions on international flights.
  • Does TSA actually measure liquid bottles?
Usually, no. TSA checks the label on the bottle, not the amount inside.
If your container clearly shows 100 ml or less, you’re good to go.
