According to the TSA (The Transportation Security Administration ) website you are good to bring hair clippers through the security checkpoint and in carry-on baggage without any restrictions.

But remember, while you can carry your clippers, you can’t give yourself a quick beard trim at the security checkpoint 😀

Here is a screenshot from their website.

However, the TSA officer may ask you to remove your hair trimmer from your bag for additional screening.

As you can also notice in the screenshot above ( the little red sign ) the TSA agent has the final decision whether an item is allowed at the security checkpoint.

This means if the security officer is not sure if an item is safe or it has some sort of security concerns, it will not be accepted on board the airplane.

But don’t fret, this is a rare occurrence.

If you bring other items inside your dope kit like lubricant oil, scissors or other items .

Hair clippers lubricant oil need to follow the TSA 3-1-1 liquid rules, no more than 3.4 oz / 100 ml for each container,

Most hair clipper lubricating oil is already less than 3.4 oz or 100 ml which is fine.

While Scissors with blades must be less than 4 inches from the pivot point (10.16 centimeters) in carry-on bags.

TSA Answers

I want to find some responses from the @AskTSA on taking hair clippers and other types of hair trimmers in carry-on luggage so I checked their social media, mainly X (Formerly Twitter).

Alley asked the TSA customer service if hair clippers are ok to bring in carry-on bags, the TSA team replied that electric hair clippers are good to go in carry-on bags.

Brian wanted to bring his 3 lbs delicious bag of apples and an electric hair clipper in his carry-on.

The same answer is given from the @AskTSA ” YES the green light for both items”.

So you can bring both cordless and cord hair clippers inside your carry-on bag or personal items without any problem.

Just make sure that they are well packed and easy to reach, in case the airport security wants to know what is included in the kit, or the scanner can not detect what is inside the bag. That will also speed up your screening process and get to the gate early.

To ensure my hair clippers are well-protected, I always use a soft cloth or bubble wrap and place them in the center of my suitcase. Consider using a dedicated grooming kit bag with compartments to keep everything organized.

Can I Take Hair Clippers In Checked Luggage?

The only thing I was worried about before I started writing this post is lithium batteries that are built in cordless hair clippers, but after I did the research I found that both the TSA and airlines do not have any problem with hair clipper batteries as they are small and won’t cause any safety concerns.

This passenger asked the @AskTSA team if this SUPRENT cordless / rechargeable hair clipper is good to bring in a carry-on or  in the hold.

The TSA guys replied that cordless / rechargeable hair clippers are permitted in both carry-on and checked bags.

How To Pack Your Hair Clipper For a Flight?

Flying always requires some prior preparation and it is good to do it neatly to keep your items safe and secure. It will help you also cut the cost of your flight and save time at the airport.

And it is better to avoid sending fragile items or electronics in your check bag.

There are many suitcases out there that are roomy enough to take all your items, meanwhile stay in the airlines carry-on size limits.

Some irresponsible baggage handlers do not handle passengers luggage carefully which is poor customer service from the airlines side.

I did check X again and got surprised by the amount of complaints some airlines receive about damaged or missing items from checked bags.

So choose a good and secured hair clipper organizer case that will take all your tools and place it inside your carry-on bag or personal item.

If you are traveling with multiple tools it is better to choose a hard-sided storage case, with separated compartments, to avoid your items to wiggle and jiggle inside the bag.

Can You Take Hair Clippers On International Flights?

The answer is yes, you can bring rechargeable hair clippers on international flights in both carry-on and checked bags.

Whether you are flying to Canada, UK or USA, Europe, Australia or New Zealand you are allowed to bring your hair clippers with you.

This traveler asked United if a hair clipper kit is allowed to carry from Paris to New-Orleans.

The United Customer service gave them the thumbs up that hair clippers are good to carry-on without any restrictions.

Ensure that you don’t take a large number of hair clippers to avoid any potential customs questions at your destination country.

If you do take large quantities of hair clippers intended for selling purposes, the customer will decide if you will have to pay taxes or they will confiscate the items., so to avoid all this inconvenience it is better to take only tools for personal use

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re flying domestically or internationally, you can take hair clippers and hair trimmers in both carry-on and checked luggage without any restrictions.

It is always better to pack fragile and electronic tools that you are afraid to get damaged or lose in your carry-on bag or a personal item, but it is up to the space availability in your bag and the airline luggage allowance you are traveling with.

We hope this helps.

Happy travel.
