Hand luggage
Is Ryanair strict on baggage size?
Ryanair is not very strict with its carry-on baggage size if your bag slightly exceeds the airline’s allowance.
It is always preferable to adhere to the airline’s luggage allowance policy to avoid any last-minute surprises at the airport.
Please make sure that you adhere to the following Ryanair carry-on baggage size and weight policy:
All Ryanair guests are allowed one small personal bag, which must fit under the seat in front of you. It can be one of the following items:
- A handbag (dimensions: 40cm width, 40cm length, 40cm height) (approximately 15.75 in × 15.75 in × 15.75 in.)
- A laptop bag (dimensions: 40cm width, 40cm length, 40cm height)
- A backpack (dimensions: 40cm width, 40cm length, 40cm height)
What can you take in hand luggage?
Guests with Priority & 2 Cabin Bags, a Regular Fare/Flexi Plus, or a connecting flight ticket are allowed one small cabin bag, which must fit under the seat in front of them (40cm x 20cm x 25cm) (15.75 in × 7.87 in × 9.84 in).
Priority customers can also bring an additional 10kg bag on board, which must fit into the baggage sizer (not exceeding 10kg and dimensions 55cm x 40cm x 20cm) (21.65 in × 15.75 in × 7.87 in ) and will be stored in the overhead locker.
I recommend you act fast and purchase priority as this will quickly sell out.
Does Ryanair Weigh carry on?
For full-size cabin bags, I have never seen Ryanair weigh a bag to check if it is under 10kg. However, if your bag looks much bigger, you may be asked to place it in a measuring stand to check.
If your bag is stuffed full and you’ve fully utilized any extendable parts, you may want to try wearing some of the clothes or moving some items between bags.
If you are asked to fit it into the measuring stand and you can’t squeeze it in, you will have to pay to check it in.

Ryanair Checked Baggage
Ryanair has reduced check-in bag fees and increased the check-in bag allowance from 15kg to 20kg.
