How Strict Is Qatar Airways On Baggage? 2025

Qatar Airways is my favorite airline that provides amazing services with a friendly and professional staff.

Even though, it is always important to be knowledgeable about Qatar Airways carry-on and checked baggage rules.

While the airline is generally lenient with slightly oversized hand luggage, they do have strict weight limits.

If your bag appears too large, staff may ask you to place it in the luggage sizer. Similarly, carry-on bags are often weighed, especially on busy routes or when flying from stricter airports.

Let’s discover more about Qatar Airways luggage requirements.

Is Qatar Airways Strict With Hand Luggage Size?

Qatar Airways is not so strict about its hand luggage.

If your baggage slightly exceeds the allowed carry-on baggage size or weight, you can still take your bag.

However, to avoid any inconvenience and last-minute fees or additional charges, ensure that your bag adheres to the following carry-on luggage restrictions:

Economy Class:

Economy class guests are entitled to have one piece of carry-on baggage, not to exceed 7 kg (15 lb).

In addition to your main hand baggage allowance, you can also take the following items:

  • A lady’s handbag
  • A small briefcase
  • A coat
  • A blanket
  • An umbrella
  • One pair of crutches or a walking stick
  • One small camera or binoculars
  • Reading materials like books
  • An infant’s carrying basket; and duty-free items purchased on the day of your flight.

First Class and Business Class:

All first and business class guests are allowed two pieces of hand luggage on board, that must not exceed a combined weight of 15 kg (33 lb).

This means you can bring two bags with different weights as long as their total is 15kg (33 lb).

In addition to the 2 pieces of carry-on, you are also allowed the following items:

  • A lady’s handbag
  • A small briefcase
  • A coat
  • A blanket
  • An umbrella
  • One pair of crutches or a walking stick
  • One small camera or binoculars
  • Reading materials like books
  • An infant’s carrying basket; and duty-free items purchased on the day of your flight.

Liquids

Just like any other airline, Qatar Airways is strict about taking liquids on board the airplane.

Qatar Airways allows passengers to carry liquids, gels, and aerosols in their carry-on bags in limited quantities.

Any liquids that you take in your carry-on baggage need to be 3.4 oz / 100 ml or less and placed inside a quart-sized bag.

You are only allowed to have one quart-sized bag, and you will need to separate it from your bag at the security checkpoint.

Larger liquids need to be placed in your checked bag.

There are exceptions to the rule when traveling with infants and necessary medications.

Does Qatar Airways Weight Carry-On?

Carry-on luggage weight matters on Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways has a limited weight for their carry-on baggage: 15 kg (33 lb) for two bags combined for first and business class, and 7 kg (15 lb) for one piece for economy class passengers.

So, there is a higher chance that the airline will weigh your bags at the airport to ensure that they don’t go above the mentioned weight.

Any heavy bags will be subject to checked baggage rules.

Qatar Airways checked baggage allowance varies depending on your route and travel class.

Children traveling with Qatar Airways are allowed the same baggage allowance as adults.

Infants traveling on a child fare are also entitled to the same baggage allowance as adults.

Extra Baggage on Qatar Airways

If you want to carry more, you may need to pay some extra baggage fees. Extra baggage charges depend on your route.

If you’re flying from the UAE to the Philippines, for example, you can buy one extra kilo for $25 online before your flight or $30 at the airport.

If you’re flying with Qatar Airways to or from the US or Canada, you’ll pay per extra bag, not per kilo.

It’ll cost you $50 in advance for the first bag, and $65 at the check-in desk.

Subsequent pieces will cost $200 online, and $250 at the airport. Our advice? Don’t over-pack.

Special Items

Qatar Airways allows passengers to take sporting equipment as checked baggage free of charge, as long as they are not bulky and do not exceed the airline checked luggage limits.

Any larger equipment that exceeds the limited size and weight will be subject to excess baggage charges.

Final Thoughts

While Qatar Airways is generous with its hand luggage weight and size, it is always better to stay within the airline’s rules for size and weight.

Their policy doesn’t differ from any other airlines: if your carry-on bag is way too large, it will be subject to checked baggage rules.

We hope this helps.

Happy travels.
