How many item you can carry on KLM hand luggage?

KLM baggage allowance depends on your booking flight; for Economy Class on European and intercontinental flights you are allowed to carry one item of hand luggage with the maximum dimensions of 1 item of hand baggage, max. 55 x 35 x 25 cm (21,5 x 13,5 x 10 inch), plus one additional item with this max dimensions : 40 x 30 x 15 cm (16 x 12 x 6 inch) and it can be a handbag , briefcase, or a laptop.

The total weight of general carry on is max 12 kg (26 lbs).

for Business Class on European and intercontinental flights passengers are allowed to carry 2 items of hand luggage each one with the mac of 55 x 35 x 25 cm (21,5 x 13,5 x 10 inch) and 1 accessory, e.g. a handbag, briefcase or laptop, max. 40 x 30 x 15 cm (16 x 12 x 6 inch).

The total weight is 18 kg (40 lbs).

KLM Children’s carry on baggage Allowance

Parents traveling with their children younger than 2 years of age are allowed to carry with them for no additional costs: one piece of hand luggage with baby care items, weighing max 12 kg (26 lbs) and with dimensions of max 55*35*25(22*14*10 inches); a collapsible buggy and a car seat.

Is KLM strict with baggage allowance?

KLM baggage allowance are not strict like some airlines at the check in, especially with check in baggage; However you will need to adhere to the airline baggage policy to avoid any last minute charges at the airport.

For Economy Class on European and intercontinental flights 1 item of check-in baggage : L + W + H max. 158 cm (62 inch) and max. 23 kg (50 lbs). Flying Blue Silver.

Gold and Platinum members and SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus members can bring 1 extra item of check-in baggage of the same dimensions and weight as mentioned above on flights operated by SkyTeam airlines.

KLM excess baggage fees per kg

If you want to carry more items with you ( more bags than your standard baggage, or bring more items larger than 158 cm(L+W+H) or heavier than 23 kg in economy class or 32 kg in business class. ), KLM excess baggage fees will apply.

If you are traveling only with one bag, you will pay an additional fee of between 55 EUR and 100 EUR for your second bag and that is depending on your ticket.

Any other additional bag will cost between EUR 70 and  EUR 240.

KLM Oversized baggage allowance:

Overweight and oversized luggage items (between 23 kg/ 50 lbs and 32 kg/ 70.5 lbs) will cost you between  EUR 20 and EUR 100, any item that exceeds 32 kg(70.5lbs)  has a fee of EUR 100 and USD 300 and will be transported as cargo.

KLM Special Baggage allowance

Because of limited space in KLM aircraft, you need to reserve for the transportation of some types of special baggage as early as possible-no later than 48 hours before departure, you can easily do this on KLM.com, log in to My trip.

KLM hand luggage liquids and powders
KLM allowed carrying liquids on board its airplanes but only in small containers with no more than 100 ml(3.4 oz
) per item, all liquids must be transported and in transparent sealable bags with a volume of 1000 ml(1 liter); the bag must be closed and the items must fit inside it easily, only one plastic bag can be carried for passengers and the rest may be carried as checked baggage. 
If you are flying to and from the United states; powders and substances can be carried in hand luggage, but also in small amounts that not exceeds 350 ml (12 oz) per item; larger items must be carried as checked baggage.
If there is any sign of tampering, the item will not be carried as either cabin and checked baggage. 
You are allowed always to carry this items on board in addition of your hand luggage:
.Baby food to be consumed during the flight
.Medicines to be taken during the flight, provided you have a prescription or attending physician’s statement
.Special diet foods to be consumed during the flight
.An urn containing ashes of a deceased person, provided it meets the requirements
Lithium batteries
Devices equipped with a lithium battery up to 100 Wh may be kept in either your hand baggage or check-in baggage. When carrying them in your check-in baggage, these devices must be completely switched off and must be protected from damage. You may bring a maximum of 15 electronic devices up to 100 Wh per passenger without requesting permission. For devices equipped with a lithium battery up to 160 Wh, permission needs to be requested via the KLM Customer Contact Centre. Devices equipped with a lithium battery larger than 160 Wh are not allowed in either your hand baggage or your check-in baggage.

Separate spare lithium batteries and power banks (for devices such as laptops, mobile phones, and medical equipment) may only be carried in your hand baggage. A maximum of 20 spare batteries up to 100 Wh per passenger is allowed without requesting permission. For spare batteries up to 100 Wh, you do not need permission. For spare batteries up to 160 Wh, permission needs to be requested via the KLM Customer Contact Centre. Spare batteries larger than 160 Wh are never allowed. If the Wh rating is not shown on the battery or cannot be determined, then the battery will not be accepted. To calculate the Wh, multiply the Amp-hour rating (Ah) by the voltage (V).
Smart baggage
For baggage equipped with a lithium battery other than lithium button cells (smart baggage), the battery must be removable. If you want to bring this as check-in baggage, the battery must be removed and carried with you in the cabin. If the lithium battery cannot be removed from your baggage, it is forbidden both as check-in and hand baggage.
Self-balancing devices
Lithium battery operated self-balancing devices or personal movement devices are not allowed to take in either your hand baggage or check-in baggage, even if the battery is disconnected or removed. This includes hoverboards, airboards, oxboards, e-skates, waveboards, U-runners and electric vehicle baggage.
However, self-balancing devices may be used by physically challenged passengers. For this, permission needs to be requested via KLM CARES. Make your request as far in advance as possible, but at least 48 hours before departure.
Electronic cigarettes
For most destinations, you may only bring your e-smoker or other types of electronic cigarette (including extra batteries) on your person. It is never allowed to carry in your check-in baggage. Since rules may differ per country, we recommend always to check the legal restrictions of all countries that are part of your journey. Using an electronic cigarette or recharging it or its battery is never allowed on board.

Prohibited items

Firearms
In your hand baggage, you may not bring any guns, firearms or other devices that are capable (or appear to be capable) of being used to cause serious injury by discharging a projectile. This includes, but is not limited to:Firearms of all types, such as pistols, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns
Toy guns, replicas, and imitation firearms that can be mistaken for real weapons
.Firearm components (except telescopic viewing equipment and viewfinders)
.Air pistols, air rifles, pellet guns, and BB guns (ball bearing guns)
. Signal flare pistols and starting pistols
. Bows, cross bows and arrows

Stunning devices
You may not bring any devices explicitly designed to stun or immobilise in your hand baggage, including:
.Devices for shocking, such as stun guns, tasers, stun batons, cattle prods, and ballistic conducted energy systems
.Animal stunners and animal killers
Pointed or edged objects
You may not bring any pointed or edged objects in your hand baggage that could be used to cause injury. These objects could be made of metal or other material strong enough to be used as a weapon. This includes, but is not limited to:
.Axes, hatchets, cleavers, and other items designed for chopping
.Knives or scissors with blades of more than 6 cm/2,35 inch (different local rules may apply)
.Ice axes and ice picks

Workmen’s tools
You may not bring any tools in your hand baggage that could be used as a pointed or edged weapon, such as:

Blunt instruments
You may not take any blunt instruments in your hand baggage that could be used to hit and cause injury. This includes, but is not limited to:Baseball and softball bats
Clubs and buttons, such as billy clubs, blackjacks, and nightsticks
Billiard, snooker, and pool cues
Fishing rods
Golf clubs, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, and cricket bats

Explosives and flammable substances
In both your hand baggage and check-in baggage, you may not take any explosive or flammable substances and devices that may pose a risk to the health or property of passengers and crew or to the safety of the aircraft. This includes, but is not limited to:
.Ammunition
.Blasting caps
.Detonators and fuses
.Explosives, explosive devices, explosive materials, replica or imitation explosives
.Mines, grenades, and other explosive military devices
.Fireworks or flares in any form (including fire- and Christmas crackers and toy caps)
.Smoke-generating canisters or cartridges
.Dynamite, gunpowder, and plastic explosives
.Flammable solids and liquids, such as petrol, diesel, lighter fluid, alcohol, ethanol
.Aerosol paint cans, turpentine, and paint thinner
Alcoholic beverages exceeding 70% by volume
.Gas and gas bottles, such as butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen in large volumes
.Small cigarette lighters and safety matches may only be taken on one’s person, not as hand baggage.
Chemical and toxic substances
You may not take any chemical or toxic substances with you that may pose a risk to the health or property of passengers and crew or to the safety of the aircraft, including:
.Disabling or incapacitating sprays, such as mace, pepper spray and tear gas
.Acids and alkalis, such as spillable ‘wet’ batteries
.Corrosive or bleaching substances, such as mercury and chlorine
.Fire extinguishers
.Infectious or biologically hazardous material, such as infected blood, bacteria and viruses
.Material capable of spontaneous ignition or combustion
Poisons
.Radioactive material, such as medicinal or commercial isotopes

Other prohibited items
In general, you may not bring any products of animal origin. This includes (parts of) animals that are the result of hunting.

On flights to or from the Philippines, jewellery or amulets made out of live bullets or empty bullet shells are prohibited.

Passengers travelling to Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda are not allowed to carry any plastic bags when entering the country. Are you buying tax-free items? We advise you to remove the plastic bag before boarding your flight.
