You’re packing to fly with the flag carrier of Kazakhstan Air Astana , and you hit a potential problem.
Your carry-on luggage is slightly too big.
It happens sometimes your suitcase is just slightly over Air Astana size limits. Replacing it for just a few extra centimeters? not a good idea.
So, what happens if your bag is a little too big?
In this post, we’ll take a closer look at Air Astana carry-on and checked baggage policies and how strict they are when it comes to enforcing this size and weight limits.
Let’s dive right in.
Air Astana Carry-on Allowance: Size and Weight

As the Air Astana stated in the screenshot above, all economy class passengers are permitted to bring one piece of cabin baggage on board with the following size and weight:
The maximum dimensions 56 x 45 x 25 cm (22 x 18 x 10 inches) they have a maximum weight of 8 kg (17 lbs) which is not generous in my opinion.
While Business saver and Business Flex passengers can bring 2 pieces of carry-on baggage 8 kg each.
Air Astana smaller bag policy
In addition to the cabin baggage allowance above you can also bring one personal item, that can be:
- A purse, briefcase, or laptop bag
- A jacket / coat, umbrella, or diaper bag
- Duty free items
- Assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, strollers, or child restraint seats
Remember that these items need to fit under the seat in front.
How Strict Is Air Astana with Hand Luggage Size and Weight?
Like many airlines Air Astana are quite clear about their hand luggage size and weight limits, so they will enforce it strictly.
When going through the check in desk, the airline clerks will verify the size and weight of your hand luggage, especial when flying on basic economy fare.
You don’t want to get that look from the check in officer.
If you go over the allowed limits it can result in your bag being checked into the cargo hold, and you may end up paying additional fees.

If My Luggage Is Over the Limits, Should I Risk It?
Some frequent flyers know that the policy on the website doesn’t always mirror the way that gate agents behave at the airport.
Sometimes they may be tolerant, and other times they can be strict.
Either way, I don’t recommend showing up with a large bag.
On international flights (and Basic economy fares), the rules are much stricter and they will check the size and weight of your bag, especially if you are traveling with a hard sided bag.
There is no way you can squeeze a hard sided suitcase into the sizer.
So to avoid any surprises at the airport, ensure your luggage is within Air Astana luggage limits.
