What Is Cayman Airways Baggage Allowance?

Cayman Airways is known for having one of the most generous baggage policies in the industry.

The airline allows you to pack up to 55 lbs / 25 kg per checked bag (for jet travel only), whereas most airlines limit you to 50 lbs / 23 kg per bag before charging excess baggage fees.

Cayman Airways Cabin Baggage

Your cabin baggage allowance depends on your travel class.

All passengers are permitted to carry one piece of cabin baggage onboard, as well as one personal item such as a handbag, briefcase, or small laptop bag.

Your travel class is indicated on your ticket and booking confirmation.

  • Cabin baggage dimensions must not exceed 24 x 16 x 11 inches (61 x 41 x 28 cm).
  • Personal item dimensions should not exceed 13 x 17 x 6 inches (33 x 43 x 15 cm).

Weight limits:

  • Economy Class: Combined weight of cabin baggage and personal item must not exceed 12 kg (26 lbs).
  • Business Class: Combined weight must not exceed 18 kg (40 lbs).

Please ensure that all your cabin items are within the size and weight limits, as they will be weighed and placed in the sizer at the airport.

Oversized or overweight items may be transferred to checked baggage and may be subject to additional fees.

Additional items you may take on board the cabin:

  • Small personal article (briefcase, purse, small laptop, camera case, etc.)
  • Personal aid device (wheelchair, cane, crutches, prosthetic devices, etc.)

Please note:

When flying to Cayman Brac or Little Cayman via Twin Otter Service, total baggage allowance is:

  • 55 lbs / 25 kg per person (up to 2 pieces combined)
  • One 15 lb / 7 kg carry-on
  • Excess baggage is charged at US$0.50 per pound

Does Cayman Airways Weigh Baggage?

Yes, all baggage is weighed and measured to ensure it is within the size and weight limits.

Checked baggage dimensions are calculated like this: Length + Width + Height = total linear inches or centimeters.

Ensure that you include the wheels and the handles, when measuring your suitcase.

Excess Baggage Fees

Cayman Airways knows that its Guests may need to travel with items that exceed the size or weight limitations, or go beyond the free baggage allowance. 

Additional charges will apply and are collected at the ticket counter.

The following charges apply for excess baggage:

Additional Bags (above free allowance):

  • Bag 3, 4, & 5: $50 per bag
  • Bag 6, 7, & 8: $75 per bag (maximum of 8 checked bags per passenger)

Overweight Bags:

  • 56 lbs to 70 lbs (25–32 kg): $75 per bag
  • 71 lbs to 99 lbs (32–45 kg): $100 per bag

Oversized Bags:

  • More than 62 linear inches but less than 120 inches: $75 per bag

Please note that baggage weighing over 99 lbs or measuring more than 120 linear inches may not be accepted.

Special Baggage

The following items can be considered one piece of checked baggage (max 62 linear inches):

  • Duffel bag, sea bag, or B-4 bag
  • Backpack or rucksack
  • Sleeping bag or bedroll
  • Musical instrument (under 39 inches in length)
  • Golf bag with one pair of golf shoes
  • Fishing or shooting equipment

Sporting Equipment

Accepted with applicable charges, securely encased:

  • Golfing Equipment: 1 golf bag (max 14 clubs, 12 balls, 1 pair of shoes).
    Soft-sided bags require a limited release form.
  • Fishing Equipment: Max 2 rods, 1 reel, 1 net, 1 tackle box, 1 pair of boots
  • Scuba Diving Equipment: 1 tank (empty), 1 knife, 1 mask, 1 snorkel, 1 buoyancy device, fins, wet suit, pressure gauge

Note: Spear fishing gear is not allowed.

Final Thoughts

You won’t have any issues if you stay within Cayman Airways baggage allowance I mentioned above.

But, If you have large items, you may end up paying more than what you thingk.
