Before you start packing your bags or even booking your flight, it’s important to know what to expect at the airport and how much luggage you can take on Air Austral.
I did some research on Air Austral baggage policy, and here’s what we found.

How strict is Air Austral with carry on baggage allowance?
Your Air Austral carry-on baggage allowance depends on your ticket type.
The maximum free hand baggage allowance, including your personal item, must not exceed 10 kg (22 lbs) in total.
You can travel with:
- One carry-on bag that meets the following size requirements:
- Maximum length: 55 cm (21.65 inches)
- Maximum height: 45 cm (17.72 inches)
- Maximum width: 20 cm (7.87 inches)
- One personal item, such as a laptop bag, handbag, or briefcase.
Important Note: Cartons and boxes are not considered “baggage.”
How strict is Air Austral with checked baggage allowance
Air Austral does not impose a limit on the number of checked baggage pieces. Instead, only the total weight matters (as described in the table below).
Your free checked baggage allowance will be mentioned on your ticket.
Your checked baggage must not exceed the following dimensions:
- 180 x 80 x 40 cm (70.87 x 31.50 x 15.75 inches).
Checked Baggage Allowance by Ticket Class:
Cabin Class | Maximum Weight (kg) | Maximum Weight (lbs) |
---|---|---|
Loisirs | 25 kg | 55 lbs |
Confort | 35 kg | 77 lbs |
Club Austral | 40 kg | 88 lbs |
Example:
For a Reunion-Paris flight in Loisirs class, you are allowed:
2 pieces of checked baggage: 12 kg (26.46 lbs) + 13 kg (28.66 lbs)

Final Thoughts
There is a good chance that Air Austral will check your luggage size and weight before boarding.
To avoid any inconvenience, stay within the airline’s baggage limits.
I hope this helps
happy travels.
